In addition to conducting their research, the successful applicant will acquire practical experience while having the privilege of using state-of-the-art facilities and equipment provided by both the Perth Wildcats and ECU.
Enhancing Performance and Reducing Injuries in Professional Basketball: An Embedded PhD Opportunity with the Perth Wildcats (NBL).
The Perth Wildcats, in collaboration with Edith Cowan University (ECU), are at the forefront of research aimed at improving performance and injury prevention for elite basketball players. The project will focus on enhancing screening measures, monitoring techniques, and record management. The ultimate goal is to establish a cutting-edge approach to performance and injury prevention within the high-performance team of the Perth Wildcats.
Esteemed experts in human performance and injury prevention, along with industry leaders, will oversee the project:
Co-Principal Supervisor: Dr. Myles Murphy (Injury Prevention Lead)
Co-Principal Supervisor: Prof. Sophia Nimphius (Human Performance Lead)
Industry Supervisors: Josh Cavanagh and Daniel Webster (Perth Wildcats)
The eligibility guidelines include specific key requirements for the successful applicant:
- The candidate must fulfill the Ph.D. admission criteria.
- The student must be enrolled as a full-time student in the Doctor of Philosophy program.
- The applicant must possess a bachelor's degree with first-class honors or a master's degree in exercise and sports science or a related field of equivalent standing.
The selection criteria include the desirable qualifications for the ideal Ph.D. candidate:
- Previous research experience in a sports science environment and/or expertise and familiarity with team sports.
- Proficiency in research and scientific writing, demonstrating excellent skills in this area.
- A keen eye for detail and a dedication to upholding superior standards of data quality.
- Experience in handling, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets, or a demonstrable ability to quickly acquire similar skills.
- An eagerness to learn and embrace a multidisciplinary approach.
- Outstanding collaboration and communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
