The University College Cork has initiated Research Position in Mapping the exposure, vulnerability, and risk of extreme climate impacts in EU coastal cities for EU Students 2021.
About the Research Position: Coastal cities are subject to extreme climate impacts under climate change – coastal flooding, erosion, etc. This PhD project, funded through a European (H2020) research project, will investigate and map the risks of extreme climate impacts in ten coastal cities in Europe. Its objectives are to:
- Map past extreme climate events.
- Identify key hazards in nominated coastal cities.
- Map the exposure and vulnerability of nominated coastal cities to climate effects and sea-level rise.
- Conduct a baseline risk analysis and mapping of potential extreme climate impacts in nominated coastal cities.
Eligibility criteria for University College Cork PhD Research Position for EU Students 2021:
- Applicants must possess a First or Upper Second Class Honours (2:1) degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, preferably Civil Engineering.
- Applicant must have experience using research methods or other approaches relevant to the subject matter is desirable.
- Applicants must have an understanding of Coastal Engineering is desirable – from academic modules, work or both.
- Applicants must have an understanding of risk analysis is also desirable
- Applicants must demonstrate good communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
- Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic English writing skills.
Value of University College Cork PhD Research Position for EU Students 2021:
Successful applicants of the University College Cork PhD Research Position for EU Students 2021 will receive a stipend of €18,500 per annum.
Note:
- EU fees and research-related travel are covered by the grant.
- Non-EU candidates will need to apply for a Non-EU fee waiver.
Duration and Start Date: 4 years – July 2021.
