Overview

The University's dedication to the community of international learners is celebrated through the Tongarewa Scholarships. Each year, the university provides a variety of scholarships to students studying abroad. This award is partially fee-based and will cover one year's worth of tuition. Candidates may be starting their first year of graduate school at Victoria University of Wellington, or they may be beginning their first year of undergraduate study

Eligibility for Tongarewa Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington:

  • Candidates must be full-time international students who have paid their full tuition.
  • Applicants have to be starting their first year of graduate school or undergraduate studies.
  • Applicants who completed their secondary education at a New Zealand school are ineligible.
  • Applicants from one of the University's overseas partners are not considered.
  • Applicants in the second year of study in the same degree program at Victoria University of Wellington are not considered.

Application Process:

All eligible candidates must apply online to be considered for the scholarship. The application should include one of the following components:

  • A personal statement of up to 500 words outlining why you wish to study at Te Herenga Waka
  • Full transcripts and other documentation relevant to the qualification type
  • An offer of place from Victoria University of Wellington (conditional or unconditional).

Value of the Scholarship:

The successful candidates are granted a sum as either $2,500; $5,000; $7,500 or $10,000.
