Western Sydney University's Peter Zelas Postgraduate Research International Awards 2021

The School Of Medicine of Western Sydney University has initiated Peter Zelas Postgraduate Research International Awards 2021 to carry research that will harness the School’s national and international collaborations and build on the School’s strengths in community-engaged and work-based learning to achieve the outcomes of the research study.

About the Research: Place, Identity, and Learning investigate relationships between sense of place and medical education, and how they lead to place-based professional identities, competence, and careers in medicine. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged and applicants should discuss and refine their ideas with the research lead.

Successful scholarship applicants will have the option of enrolling in:

•     Western Sydney University Masters or Doctorate programs or
•     Western Sydney University - Maastricht University Dual Award PhD

The Dual Award doctorate is offered in partnership with the world-leading Maastricht School of Health Professions Education (SHE), (opens in new window)Opens in a new window Maastricht University, The Netherlands. SHE offers a Ph.D. program that is internationally recognized and provides world-class research training and access to international networks.

Eligibility criteria for Western Sydney University's Peter Zelas Postgraduate Research International Awards 2021:

• Applicants must hold qualifications and experience equal to one of the following (i) an Australian First Class Bachelor (Honours) degree, (ii) coursework Masters with at least 25% research component, (iii) a Research Masters degree, or (iv) equivalent overseas qualifications.
• Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance in disciplines relevant to medical education and training.
• Applicants must be willing to travel in Western Sydney and potentially rural Western New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
• Applicants must be enthusiastic and highly motivated to undertake further study at an advanced level.

In addition, Dual Award Ph.D. program applicants must-

• Successfully complete the SHE Ph.D. Proposal Writing Course,(opens in new window)Opens in a new window with a research proposal that is relevant to the Western Sydney medical program and approved by the School of Medicine for doctoral research.
•  Be willing to travel and reside in both Western Sydney and Maastricht.

Value of Western Sydney University's Peter Zelas Postgraduate Research International Awards 2021:

Successful applicants of the Peter Zelas Postgraduate Research International Awards 2021will receive the following benefits-

• Domestic candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs, supported by the Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset.
• International candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs. Those with a strong track record will be eligible for a tuition fee waiver.
• Support for conference attendance, fieldwork, and additional costs as approved by the School.

Note: International candidates are required to hold an Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC)(opens in new window)Opens in a new window insurance policy for the duration of their study in Australia. This cost is not covered by the scholarship.
