Centre for Quantum Biology studentships at University of Surrey 2023

About:

We are seeking outstanding PhD candidates to undertake fully funded (for 3.5 years) studentships. The University of Surrey provides a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment, with access to state-of-the-art facilities. We see our postgraduate researchers as an integral part of our research community, collaborating and innovating together with academics at all levels. We are offering four innovative faculty-funded research projects that build on the expertise already established via our Quantum Biology Centre for Doctoral Training. Candidates can apply for up to two of the projects.

Projects​:

• Coherent electron transport in energy generation processes by electroactive microorganisms
• Quantum effects in the function of biological molecules
• Quantum thermodynamical framework for understanding off-equilibrium properties of living systems
• Quantum vibration: experimental investigation on the role of terahertz vibrations for wavelike excitation energy transfer in photosynthetic systems

Eligibility criteria:

• Open to any UK or international candidates.
• Up to 30% of the University of Surrey-funded studentships may be awarded to international students.

• You can apply for one or two of these faculty-funded studentships. A single online application should be submitted via the application portal for the Quantum Biology PhD program. 
• When completing your application, in place of a research proposal, please provide a 1-page document containing Reference numbers(s), Project title(s), and Supervisor name(s) of the project or two projects you have selected.
• An explanation of your motivations for wanting to study for a Ph.D.
• Your reasons for selecting the project(s) you have chosen.
