Wellington Historical and Early Settlers Association James E. Worsfold Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
This scholarship was established by the Wellington Historical and Early Settlers’ Association in memory of Rt Reverend James E Worsfold to encourage research into the early history of the Wellington region. It supports students enrolling in a BA (Hons), MA, or PhD in New Zealand history, including studies focused on Wellington.
Eligibility Criteria of Wellington Historical and Early Settlers Association James E. Worsfold Scholarship:
Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enrol in a BA (Hons), MA, or PhD at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, with research focused on the history of the Wellington region.
Selection Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enrol in a BA (Hons), MA, or PhD at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, studying New Zealand history that includes the Wellington region.
- Preference will be given to applicants whose research focuses on some aspect of 19th-century history.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 5,000 (will be paid in two equal instalments).
Note:
- The recipient must provide a letter of thanks to the donor within one month of receiving the award.
- The recipient is required to present a lecture to the Wellington Historical and Early Settlers’ Association on their thesis topic and findings at a mutually agreed date.
- The scholarship funds will be paid in two equal instalments — the first at the beginning of the scholarship year and the second after the delivery of the lecture.
