SAMRC Clinician Researcher Programme 2023

The SAMRC has committed to strengthening initiatives that acknowledge the dearth of clinician-researchers in South Africa. The Clinician Researcher Development program aims to produce a pool of highly skilled clinician-scientists who are competent and likely to be drawn to academic medicine. The SAMRC is dedicated to supporting and enabling universities to significantly increase their output of early-career clinician-scientists and to create a dynamic and transformed academic process for health research in South African medical schools through its Division of Research Capacity Development.

Eligibility for the SAMRC Clinician Researcher Programme:

• The candidate must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of South Africa.  
• The candidate's Ph.D. research proposal needs to be officially authorized.
• The candidate must be enrolled full-time in a PhD program at an institution in South Africa.
• The candidates must submit a formal promise to participate in research from a knowledgeable supervisor who is willing to mentor the student during their degree.
• For the scholar to carry out the PhD research project in an efficient manner, the research supervisor needs to have access to enough facilities and financing for the project.

Value of the scholarship:

SAMRC Clinician Researcher Programme awards a value of R 500 000.00 per annum.
