Kahurangi Māori Student Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The Kahurangi Scholarships provide Māori students with accommodation, fees, and/or stipends ranging from up to NZD 32,000 over one to three years. They support first-year tāuira Māori living in halls or Joan Stevens Hall to maintain tikanga, with additional tuition contributions or stipends for subsequent years. Eligibility is based on academic merit and strong engagement in te ao Māori, community involvement, leadership, and achievements in arts, sports, or cultural activities.
Eligibility Criteria for the Kahurangi Māori Student Scholarship:
- Applicants must be of Māori descent, connected to their whakapapa, registered with at least one iwi, and have achieved NCEA Level 2 with Merit (or equivalent).
- Applicants must be domestic fee-paying students.
- Australian citizens or permanent residents, and dependents of diplomats must be completing at least two full years at a New Zealand Secondary School at the time of application.
- Applicants must be intending to enrol full time in the year following application in their first undergraduate degree at the university.
- Applicants must be Year 13 students or recent graduates planning to enrol full-time in their first undergraduate degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, including those taking a gap year.
Application Process for the Kahurangi Māori Student Scholarship:
- A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement as well as the areas of culture, community involvement, leadership, or sport.
