Pakohe Sustainability Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The Pakohe Sustainability Scholarship supports students who demonstrate leadership and involvement in sustainability initiatives, aligning with the University’s goal of integrating sustainability into all aspects of study and community. Valued at NZD 5,000 or NZD 10,000, it can be used toward accommodation or tuition fees in the first year of study.
Eligibility Criteria of Pakohe Sustainability Scholarship:
- Applicants must be New Zealand or Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or international students who have completed at least two full years (Year 12 and 13) at a New Zealand secondary school, with NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Merit or equivalent.
- They must be intending to enrol full-time in their first undergraduate degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, and be in Year 13 or on a gap year at the time of application.
Selection Criteria: Scholarships will be awarded competitively based on academic merit, demonstration of involvement in sustainability initiatives and practices, intended involvement as a sustainability leader at the University, and commitment to community.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 5,000 or NZD 10,000.
Note:
- Recipients will receive mentoring from the University’s Director of Sustainability and can participate in initiatives such as the Green Impact programme, the students’ association sustainability committee, and the Piki Toitū volunteer programme.
- Scholarship payments can be applied toward accommodation at University halls (paid in February and July) or credited to tuition fees upon invoicing.
- If the recipient qualifies for Fees Free, the scholarship will be paid as a living-cost stipend in two instalments, to be used for study-related expenses such as accommodation, books, or travel.
