Mātātoa Sport Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The Mātātoa Sport Scholarship supports student athletes in balancing academic study, sporting commitments, and wellbeing, fostering success at Victoria University of Wellington. Open to first-year undergraduate athletes across all disciplines, it provides NZD 7,000 towards tuition or accommodation, along with access to fitness facilities, recreation staff, and an ambassador welcome pack.
Eligibility Criteria for the Mātātoa Sport Scholarship:
- Applicants must be New Zealand or Australian citizens/permanent residents (or hold a New Zealand Residence Class visa), having completed at least two full years (Year 12 and 13) at a New Zealand secondary school.
- Applicants must have strong academic achievement (NCEA Level 2 Merit or equivalent) and be at least age-group regional or national representatives in their sport.
- Applicants must be, at a minimum, age-group regional and/or national representatives in their chosen sport.
- Applicants must be domestic fee-paying students.
- Applicants must intend to enrol full-time in their first undergraduate degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
- Applicants must be in Year 13 at the time of application.
Application Process for the Mātātoa Sport Scholarship:
- A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Scholarships will be awarded based on sporting achievement (regional or national representation), academic merit, sport leadership contributions, and other personal circumstances.
