Eligibility Criteria for International Doctoral Student Award (IDSA):

Applicants must:

  • Be international students with a valid Canadian study permit.
  • Be registered full-time in a doctoral (PhD) program.
  • Be assessed international tuition fees.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress in their program.
  • Not hold conflicting funding such as:
    • tuition-specific awards
    • certain external or government/industry sponsorships exceeding minimum funding,
    • or be admitted as a self-funded student.
  • Remain classified as international students; changing to domestic tuition status makes them ineligible for future installments.

Value of International Doctoral Student Award (IDSA):

Funding varies depending on program stage but typically includes:

  • About $5,140 per term in early/mid PhD years.
  • Reduced or structured funding in later years (including $3,427 + $1,713 split in some cases).
  • Support may continue up to 14 terms depending on admission pathway.

Application Process:

No application is required. Eligible students are automatically assessed and awarded by GSPA based on enrollment and eligibility status.
