C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Criminology at Victoria University of Wellington
The C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Criminology, established in connection with the University of Canterbury’s Anthropology scholarship, honors the legacy of sociologist C. Wright Mills. It supports graduates from any New Zealand university or the University of the South Pacific who are enrolling, or intending to enrol, in a Master of Criminology (MCrim) or PhD in Criminology at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
Eligibility Criteria of C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Criminology:
- Open to students enrolled or intending to enrol full-time or part-time in a Master of Criminology (MCrim) or PhD in Criminology at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
- Recipients must normally enrol by 31 March following application, unless granted an extension by the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Selection Criteria: The Committee will consider the applicant’s research proposal or progress report, their potential contribution to the field of Criminology and the Institute, and may also take financial hardship into account.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 3,750.

- Recipients are required to write a letter of thanks to the scholarship donor.
- The scholarship is tenable for one year and may be extended for a second year upon the Institute of Criminology’s recommendation, based on satisfactory thesis progress and contribution to the Institute’s academic programme.
