Weir House Alumni Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The Weir House Alumni Scholarship has been established by a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington who was a former resident of Weir House. This scholarship is open to first-year domestic students attending Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington to assist with their accommodation costs at Weir House, and who might otherwise not be able to for financial reasons. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a first-year student who has been accepted into Weir House.
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be full-time Year 13 students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and eligible for a student allowance.
Selection Criteria: Preference will be given to applicants living outside the Wellington region (beyond a line from Otaki to Upper Hutt and south), with consideration also given to academic merit, as verified by the applicant’s school or NZQA.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
Award: NZD 5,000.
Note:
- Accommodation is provided in a twin-share room for the year, with no upgrades permitted. Recipients are responsible for the Registration and Activities Fee, a Residents' Association Fee, and a refundable deposit, which may be adjusted for any personal or shared loss or damage.
- While recipients may hold other awards simultaneously, the Weir House Alumni Scholarship cannot be combined with another accommodation scholarship. Recipients are expected to write a thank-you letter to the donor upon receiving the award and submit an end-of-year progress report.
- The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
- The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
