The PhD student will undertake scientific research on the topic of 'Soot Modeling in Fire-Driven Flows' in the Department of Structural Engineering and Building Materials under the supervision of Prof. Tarek Beji. The main objective of this Structural Engineering and Building Materials PhD Studentship project is to improve the state-of-the-art modelling of soot by developing and validating a model which incorporates ‘essential physics and chemistry’, without substantially increasing the computational times for CFD simulations.
Eligibility for Structural Engineering and Building Materials PhD Studentship 2020:
In order to be eligible for Structural Engineering and Building Materials PhD Studentship you must have,
- Strong background in Combustion, thermodynamics and heat & mass transfer
- Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) packages, e.g., Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), FireFOAM, OpenFOAM
- Programming skills in FORTRAN and/or C++
- Very good writing and communication skills in English
