After leaving her position as deputy principal, she moved to Wellington. Before becoming a teacher, Ella, a Wellingtonian, earned her Bachelor of Music from Victoria University of Wellington. When she was 24 years old, her father passed away unexpectedly, ending her own hopes of pursuing any postgraduate studies at the moment.
