Eligibility Criteria for the Arnold and Julia Greenwell Memorial Scholarship:

  • It is open to all doctoral graduate students in good standing.
  • It is offered to students who are conducting research/scholarship in the social sciences or humanities.
  • Preference is given to nominees with a GPA > 3.5. 
  • Students must be enrolled either full- or part-time during the fall 2025 semester to be eligible. 

Nomination Process:

  • Students are nominated by the Dean of their College.
  • Students must include two letters of recommendation from advisors.
  • A maximum 500-word prospectus describing leadership activities and research/scholarship related to the social sciences or humanities.
  • A CV that demonstrates the highest levels of excellence in scholarship and leadership, and an unofficial transcript. 

Selection Process:

Nominations will be evaluated by the Graduate School on the strength of the letters of recommendation as well as leadership and research/scholarly activities. Priority will be given to eligible graduate students who demonstrate the following:

  • Strength of the letters of recommendation.
  • Leadership in their field of study, including awards.
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity. 
  • Outreach in their project and how it improves the human condition.
  • High achieving academic performance.

Deadline:

  • Call: Opens on January 5.
  • College nominations due the Graduate School: February 20 (Contact Department or College for internal deadlines).

Value of the Scholarship:

The selected candidates will be awarded with an award amount of $1,500.

Additional Requirements: Recipients are required to write a Thank You letter and attend the Graduate School Evening of Excellence.
