David Vickers Award for Indigenous Students

The David Vickers Award for Indigenous Students is supported by the late David Vickers and supports Indigenous students who demonstrate commitment to their culture and heritage, as well as to their communities, however they define them.

Eligibility criteria for the David Vickers Award for Indigenous Students:

• Applicants must be currently registered students at the college.
• Applicants must have Indigenous ancestry, including First Nations, Metis, Inuit, or Native American ancestry.
• Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or equivalent.
• Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to their culture, heritage, and community.
• Applicants must demonstrate a dedication to finding contemporary solutions that honour Indigenous culture while considering the interests and needs of Canadian society.
• Financial need is considered but is not the primary criterion.

Application Process for the David Vickers Award for Indigenous Students:

• Applicants must submit a self-written letter outlining their commitment to wellness.
• Applicants must provide a letter of reference from a community member or instructor addressing their commitment to wellness.
• Applicants must submit the Eyēʔ Sqȃ’lewen (IECC) awards application form. 
• Successful applicants must demonstrate an ability to “walk in both worlds.”
• Recipients are expected to attend an awards ceremony.
