Introduction: 

Commonwealth Indigenous Scholarships at Southern Cross University have two forms of Commonwealth Indigenous Scholarships:

  • Commonwealth Indigenous Accommodation Scholarships
  • Commonwealth Indigenous Education Costs Scholarships

These scholarships are funded through the Indigenous Student Success Program that is provided federally by the Commonwealth of Australia (Canberra).

Eligibility requirement for Commonwealth Indigenous Scholarships at Southern Cross University 2026 :

  • Must be an Australian citizen and identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and be accepted by their community.
  • Must be experiencing financial hardship or low socio-economic status.
  • Must be enrolled or intending to enrol in an eligible course, preferably as a commencing undergraduate student, in a Commonwealth Supported Place and meet minimum study load requirements (48 credit points per year or 24 if starting after July).
  • Must not be receiving certain Centrelink payments or any other equivalent Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship at the same time.

Value of the scholarship:

A AUD 24,000 award is available to support a full-time student

Application Process:

  • Applicants must complete the online application form to be considered for the scholarship.
  • Applications for Term 3, 2026 close on 7 July 2026.
  • The form must be submitted on or before midnight 7th July 2026.

Note:

  • A total of 20 Commonwealth Indigenous Accommodation Scholarships are offered in 2025. Each provides $8,000 per year for three years, totalling $24,000.
  • A total of 40 Commonwealth Indigenous Education Costs Scholarships are offered in 2025. Each provides $4,000 per year for three years, totalling $12,000.

Payment Structure

  • Payments are made per term, based on enrolment of 12 credit points, up to an annual maximum.
  • A minimum annual enrolment of 48 credit points is required (or 24 credit points if commencing after June).
