It will develop and support the collection and analysis of evidence, influence policy, share insight and build intellectual capacity across the arts, culture and heritage sector; and will do this by working across the breadth of the cultural domains, including the arts, heritage, tourism, museums, libraries and archives and creative industries.
The South African Cultural Observatory will develop a strategic vision and organising principle for the collection of statistics; and develop indicators appropriate to the South African context and based on need and audience. All future research in the sector will apply this strategic vision and organising principle to ensure the comparability of results.
