The Robert and Lorraine Pedretti Scholarship
The Robert and Lorraine Pedretti Scholarship is intended to support students who are pursuing a teaching credential and demonstrate a commitment to working in schools or communities that serve students facing socio-economic challenges. This scholarship aims to assist students who are dedicated to making a positive impact on underrepresented populations, particularly in schools with a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals and/or identified as English Language Learners. The Pedretti Scholarship recognizes the importance of educators in these communities and seeks to empower future teachers who are committed to serving these student populations.
Eligibility
To qualify for the Robert and Lorraine Pedretti Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Enrollment Requirements:
Applicants must be enrolled at least part-time in an eligible program:
- Undergraduate or credential students must be enrolled in at least 6 units.
- Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 units.
- Objective of Qualifying for a Teaching Credential: Applicants must have the goal of qualifying for a teaching credential.
One of the Following Characteristics:Field Placement in a High-Need School:
- The applicant must have requested a field placement in a Santa Clara County school that has a high percentage of students eligible for free/reduced-price meals and/or identified as English Language Learners.
Extensive Community Service:
- Alternatively, applicants must have demonstrated extensive community service in a Santa Clara County school or another community agency that serves a population with a high percentage of students who are eligible for free/reduced-price meals and/or identified as English Language Learners.
- Additionally, the recipient of this scholarship must also write a thank you note to the donor expressing gratitude for the award.
