Friends of Wellington Botanic Garden Award at Victoria University of Wellington
The Friends of Wellington Botanic Garden established this award to promote science and education by supporting postgraduate (Master’s or PhD) students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. The scholarship aims to assist with research and educational costs for students conducting botanical research in collaboration with the Garden.
Eligibility Criteria of Friends of Wellington Botanic Garden Award:
- Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enrol, either full-time or part-time, in a Master’s or PhD programme focused on botanical research.
- Preference will be given to research projects involving plants from the specialised collections of the Wellington Botanic Garden.
Selection Criteria:
- Applicants must undertake research in a field that complements botanical studies, with selection based on the quality and merit of their application and research proposal.
- Preference may be given to students who are already enrolled or have confirmed enrolment for the year in which the award is granted.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 5,000.
Note:
- The recipient will be required to present a summary of their research to the Friends of the Wellington Botanic Garden at a Friends meeting during the year they hold the award.
- Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for the Centre for Biodiversity and Restoration Ecology and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
- The recipient will be encouraged to build a productive research relationship with the Friends and with the Wellington Botanic Garden.
- The recipient will provide a written report and thank you letter after the year following their award to be submitted to the Friends of the Wellington Botanic Garden.
