ELD Writer's Award

The ELD Writer's Award supports ELD students who demonstrate strong writing skills through an outstanding paragraph or essay that effectively supports a topic sentence or thesis.

Eligibility criteria for the ELD Writer's Award:

• Applicants must have been enrolled in an Access Program or Access course for at least one semester during the award eligibility period of May 1 to April 30.
• For 03–06 level paragraphs, the work must be written as part of the course requirements, be an in-class assignment, demonstrate skill in using the specified rhetorical mode(s), provide clearly written support for a well-stated topic sentence, include revisions based on instructor comments if applicable, and be entirely the student's own work.
• For 07/09 level essays, the work must be a major essay written as part of the course requirements, be an in-class assignment, demonstrate skill in the required writing and/or analytical techniques, provide well-written support for a clearly stated thesis, include revisions based on instructor comments if applicable, and be entirely the student's own work.

Application Process for the ELD Writer's Award:

• No separate application is required.
• The award is selected through faculty/staff nomination.
