Climate extremes in Western Australia Scholarship 2024

To research present and potential changes in climatic extremes for the state of Western Australia, we are looking for a highly motivated and passionate PhD candidate. Working on a bigger joint initiative with Murdoch University and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is an intriguing prospect. Producing the next generation of high-resolution regional climate forecasts for Western Australia based on the most recent Coupled Model Intercomparison research (CMIP6) is the main goal of this research. The candidate will be a member of a wider collaborative team, working alongside scientists from DWER and Murdoch. A wide range of themes, including heatwaves and cold spells, compound severe events, fire weather, daily precipitation extremes, and many more, may be fitted to the project. The applicant will be able to customize their PhD depending on their specific interests.

Eligibility for Climate Extremes in Western Australia Scholarship:

• To be eligible, candidates must fulfil the prerequisite HDR degree entry requirements (upper second-class Honours degree, master's degree by research, or equivalent).
• A bachelor's degree in science or engineering with honours in the first, upper second, or equivalent. A student's undergraduate thesis and/or major should ideally have something to do with the earth sciences (physical oceanography, meteorology, climatology, atmospheric science, etc.). Nonetheless, those with a solid background in mathematics and physics as well as excellent coding abilities are urged to apply.
