Sleath String Performance Prize
In 1974, Howard Fortnam Sleath donated a set of four string instruments (two violins, a viola, and a cello) to the University of Queensland's Department of Music. After his passing, the university received a bequest from Howard Sleath to support the study of bowed string instruments. Established in 1998, the annual Sleath String Performance Prize is one of the initiatives funded by this bequest.
Eligibility Criteria for the Sleath String Performance Prize:
- Applicants must be enrolled in either the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Music (Honours) programs.
- Applicants may also enroll in a dual program that includes either the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Music (Honours).
- The applicants must be enrolled in Arts, humanities and social sciences courses.
- The applicant must be available to perform at the annual competition.
Application Process for the Sleath String Performance Prize:
- Students must submit an online application with their personal details and information about the works they plan to perform.
- The eligible applicants will be invited to perform at the competition, where the best orchestral stringed instrument with a bow will receive the prize.
