Ivanie Down Joslin Classics Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington:
This scholarship was established to encourage students to continue their studies in Classics. Classics is vital to a broad based humanities education. It examines the legacies of ancient Greece and Rome, the ideas expressed through language and literature and how they have influenced the way we live today.
Eligibility Criteria: This scholarship is open to a current full time student majoring in Classical Studies, Latin, or Greek, who is intending to enrol in their third undergraduate year or Honours year majoring in Classical Studies, Latin or Greek at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in the year following application.
Selection Criteria:
- Applicants must be full-time students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, majoring in Classical Studies, Latin, or Greek, and intending to enrol in 300-level courses or pursue a Bachelor of Honours.
- Applicants are selected based on academic merit and passion for the subject, with financial hardship considered as a secondary factor.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
Award: Upto NZD 5,000.
Deadline: 1st October, 2025.
Note:
- Students are asked to write a letter of thanks to the donor at the outset of their scholarship, and to share an essay that they have produced during the tenure of the scholarship at the end of the year.
- The award is valued at up to $5,000, to be paid towards fees. In the event that the successful awardee also receives another fee-paying scholarship, this funding can be paid as stipend directly to the student (at the discretion of the donor).
- The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
- The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
