Gaffney Prize at University College Cork 2026

Introduction:

The Dr. Desmond Gaffney Prize in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine is an undergraduate prize established in honor of Dr. Desmond Gaffney, former Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at Cork University Hospital. 

Eligibility criteria for the Gaffney Prize at University College Cork:

• The applicants must be a current UCC student in the School of Medicine.
• The project must be supervised by a consultant anesthesiologist, consultant intensivist, or pain management specialist.
• The applicants must achieve the highest mark in the Anaesthesiology section of the mandatory Research Report for Final Year Module

Application Process:

• No separate application is required. Eligible students are automatically considered based on their research project and performance in the module.

Value of the Scholarship:

• A EUR 250 and a medal are awarded to support a full-time student.
