Donalda MacDonald Memorial Award at Holland College 2026

Introduction: 

The Donalda MacDonald Memorial Award was established by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) in memory of Donalda MacDonald, a dedicated labour leader who spent more than 25 years advocating for workers' rights, women's issues, and stronger communities. The award recognizes students who demonstrate financial need, community involvement, and an understanding of the important role unions play in society.

Eligibility requirement for Donalda MacDonald Memorial Award at Holland College:

• Be entering their first year of studies in a Holland College program.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Demonstrate community involvement through extracurricular or volunteer activities.
• Submit a short essay on "the role of unions in our communities."
• Be enrolled in any Holland College program.

Value of the scholarship:

A CAD 550 is awarded to support a full-time student

Application Process:

• Apply to a Holland College program.
• Complete the scholarship application before April 2, 2026.
• Submit a short essay on the role of unions in our communities.
• Provide information about your extracurricular and community involvement, including:
  • Organization/activity name.
  • Dates of involvement.
  • Leadership roles held (if any).
  • Description of responsibilities and contributions.
• Indicate whether you are a CUPE member or the spouse/child of a CUPE member.
• If applicable, provide the CUPE member's name and relationship to you.
• Demonstrate financial need as required by the application.
