Bill Nichols Scholarship

The Bill Nichols Scholarship was established in honor of Bill Nichols, Professor Emeritus and a pioneer in the study of documentary film, and it supports graduate students interested in documentary film production and studies.

Eligibility criteria for the Bill Nichols Scholarship:

• Applicants must be majoring in Cinema at the university.
• Applicants may be entering or continuing students.
• Graduate applicants must be enrolled in the M.A. or M.F.A. programs in Cinema.
• Graduate applicants must normally be enrolled in at least 8 units.
• Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Applicants must demonstrate an interest in documentary film production or documentary film studies.

Application process for the Bill Nichols Scholarship:

• Applicants must submit a personal statement, typed and double-spaced, describing their documentary film project or providing an abstract of critical work related to documentary film.
  
• The statement must not exceed 300 words and should include at least 3 bibliographical sources for critical work.
  
• Applicants must provide a Vimeo or YouTube link to a sample clip of your project. If unavailable, submit a sample of a previous documentary you directed.
  
• Applicants must indicate whether they will be enrolled full-time (8 graduate units) during the upcoming Fall semester.
  
• Applicants must upload an unofficial transcript.
