The Institute of Chinese Studies, Delhi (ICS) is one of the oldest research institutions in China and East Asia in India. With support from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, it is the mandate of the ICS to develop a strategic vision for India’s dealings with China and to help adapt India’s priorities quickly and appropriately to address the research and educational demands arising from China’s emergence. 

Mission:

  • The Institute encompasses a variety of disciplinary specializations and professional expertise and pursues common objectives regarding the study of China and East Asia in India. The ICS, therefore, aims to:
  • Promote research in areas of history, culture and literature, society, international relations, the economy and the polity of China and East Asia;
  • Lead public discourse with regard to India-China relations;
  • Support teaching programs on China and East Asia in Indian Universities;
  • Train young social scientists and China scholars;
  • Build a national network of China and East Asia scholars;
  • Facilitate new research by offering Internships and funding for projects;
  • Provide informed and objective inputs in policy formulation;
  • Publish the quarterly journal, China Report;
  • Produce ICS Occasional Paper, Monographs, Books and Policy Analyses;
  • Foster active links with business, government and non-governmental organizations in India; and
  • Promote international collaborations and exchange program.
