Sebastian Black Prize in English 2024

In recognition of Sebastian Black's exceptional contributions to the University of Auckland throughout his tenure as an English Department instructor from 1966 to 2000, the Sebastian Black Prize was instituted in 2000. Funding for the Prize comes from a fund established by the Department, with contributions from friends, graduates, and coworkers.

Eligibility for Sebastian Black Prize in English 2024:

• The Sebastian Black Prize in English 2024 will be awarded annually to the full-time student achieving the highest aggregate of marks in two Stage I English courses at the University of Auckland.
• As a minimum standard, the student must have achieved an A- grade in each course.

Application Process:

Students do not need to apply for this scholarship, award, or prize or complete an online application form. It is awarded on the recommendation of the relevant faculty or University of Auckland committee.

Value of Sebastian Black Prize in English 2024:

• The value of the Sebastian Black Prize in English 2022 will be NZD 700.

The Sebastian Black Prize in English 2024 will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Deputy Head (Academic) of the School of Humanities (or nominee) in consultation with the Discipline Convenor of English and Drama. The University of Auckland Council will not be bound to award the Prize in a particular year if there is no candidate of sufficient merit. The Sebastian Black Prize in English 2020 may not be shared.
