The Seán Ó Riada Memorial Prize at University College Cork 2026

Introduction 

The Seán Ó Riada Memorial Prize was established by the colleagues of the late Seán Ó Riada, who was a member of the Department of Music at University College Cork (UCC) from 1963 to 1971. The prize recognizes exceptional understanding and achievement in Irish traditional music.

Eligibility requirements for the Seán Ó Riada Memorial Prize at the University College Cork:

• The applicant must be a current student of University College Cork.
• The prize is awarded to a candidate in the BMus (Hons) degree examination who demonstrates the deepest understanding of Irish traditional music through academic work, performance, or both.
• The candidate must meet the conditions:
  • Achieve a sufficiently high standard as determined by the Academic Council.
  • Have been a student at University College Cork for the four years immediately preceding the BMus (Hons) degree examination.
  • Have not passed the First University Examination in Music more than three years
    The applicants must be registered for the MA in Modern Irish program at UCC.

Application Process:

• There is no separate application required; the students are considered automatically.

Value of the Scholarship:

• EUR 400 is available to support a full-time student.
