Introduction
The O’Longan Memorial Prizes were established in 1918 by admirers of the literary work of Mícheál Óg Ó Longáin (1766–1827), a Cork poet, to preserve his memory and encourage literary work in the Irish language.
Eligibility requirements for the O’Longan Memorial Prizes at the University College Cork:
- The applicants must be current University College Cork students or graduates of not more than two years standing.
- The prizes are awarded for merit in original composition in Irish, either prose or poetry.
- The subject of the composition may be chosen by the competitor.
- The applications are open to the students and recent graduates of all nationalities.
