The Hasso-Plattner Institute (HPI) Research School, located at the University of Cape Town and connected to the School of Information Technology at the same university, offers PhD and postdoctoral fellowships every year to eligible students from Africa who are pursuing degrees in Computer Science (CS) and Information Systems (IS).
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be from the African continent.
- Applicants must hold a master's degree (or PhD for Postdoctoral candidates) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, supported by a good dissertation.
- Applicants must be proficient in English and fulfill the English language proficiency requirements.
- Applicants whose medium of instruction was English need not submit the English proficiency proof.
Application Process:
- Interested candidates must submit an online application along with the following documents:
- A CV (2-3 pages),
- Academic transcripts,
- TOEFL/IELTS Results
- A brief research proposal (2-3 pages) with a potential supervisor at UCT.
Value of the Scholarship:
- Selected candidates will get the following benefits:
- PhD students will receive tuition and registration fees, and a bursary of ZAR 262,200/ year or ZAR 21,850/month Page 1 of 2
- Postdoctoral fellows will receive ZAR 300,000 – 380,000, commensurate with their experience
- Up to ZAR 28,500 once-off equipment allowance
- Up to ZAR 38,000 per annum for conference travel.
