The Pontifical Institute for Christian Archeology was founded in 1925 by a papal motu proprio by Pope Pius XI. Next to the Pontificia Accademia Romana di Archeologia and the Pontificia Commissione di Archeologia Sacra.
The institute offers a three-year postgraduate course in Christian Archeology, including the subjects of the history of Christian archeology, topography, iconography and hagiography, epigraphy and architecture. Admission requirements are an undergraduate degree, degrees are baccalauréat, licentiate, and doctorate. The current rector is Danilo Mazzoleni, secretary is Carmelo Pappalardo.
