The Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation was set up in 1998 by Marjorie Deane. The formal purposes of the foundation are:
- To advance the education of the public in financial and monetary theory and institutions and financial journalism and in particular by:
- The provision of work experience for students and young people at The Economist or some other suitable organization, and the provision of financial support during such work experience.
- The commissioning of research into a subject having a connection with financial institutions, financial theory and investments, and where appropriate making arrangements for the publication of the results.
- The provision of vocational training in journalism for persons who are unemployed or have been made redundant.
