Snickel Lane Urban Art Award at University of Auckland 2026:

The Snickel Lane Urban Art Award was established in 2016 by Argosy Property to provide students with an opportunity to create and display public artwork while developing practical expertise in urban art, with support from Argosy staff and the School of Creative Arts.

Eligibility Criteria for the Snickel Lane Urban Art Award at University of Auckland 2026:

  • Applicant must be enrolled full-time at the School of Creative Arts in the year of application.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following programmes:
    • Doctorate of Fine Arts (DFA)
    • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
    • Master of Fine Arts (MFA)
    • Postgraduate Diploma of Fine Arts (PGDipFA)
    • Final year of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)
  • Applicant must be a domestic or international student.

Application Process for the Snickel Lane Urban Art Award at University of Auckland 2026:

  • Complete and submit the application form to the School of Creative Arts.
  • Applications usually open approximately six weeks before the closing date.

Selection Process:

  • Applications are assessed by a Selection Committee within the School of Creative Arts.
  • The Committee nominates a candidate to the Scholarships Office.
  • The award is made by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Selection Committee.
  • Selection is based on the merit of the proposed urban artwork design for a specific site assigned by Argosy in the Snickel Lane development.
  • The Selection Committee comprises:
    • Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education or nominee
    • Fine Arts Discipline Director or nominee
    • One representative of the donor.

Value of the Scholarship:

  • Up to NZD 10,000 to cover the installation and materials costs for the project.
  • One award is made annually.
  • The award is paid in two equal instalments:
    • First instalment upon acceptance of the award.
    • Second instalment upon completion of the project.

Notes:

  • The copyright of the completed project remains with the student.
  • The award may be held concurrently with another scholarship, award, or grant where permitted by the relevant regulations and with approval from the University of Auckland Council.
  • The recipient must declare all other scholarships, awards, or grant funding to the Scholarships Office.
  • The University of Auckland Council is not required to make an award if no candidate meets the criteria or demonstrates sufficient merit.
