2. Limited Memory

Limited memory machines can learn from historical data to make judgments in addition to having the capabilities of purely reactive machines. Almost all present AI applications that we are aware of fall into this category. All modern AI systems, including deep learning systems, are trained using enormous amounts of training data that they store in memory to create a reference model for solving future issues. Almost all present-day AI applications, from chatbots and virtual assistants to self-driving vehicles are all driven by limited memory AI.

3. Theory of Mind

While the first two categories of AI have been and remain to be plentiful, the next two types of AI exist only as an idea or a work in progress for the time being. Theory of Mind researchers are currently developing AI, which is the next level of AI systems. A theory of mind-level AI will be able to discern the wants, emotions, beliefs, and mental processes of the beings with which it interacts. To properly comprehend human wants, AI computers must recognize humans as persons with minds that can be changed by a variety of events, effectively "understanding" humans.

4. Self-aware

This is the final piece of AI development, which exists only in theory at the moment. This form of AI will not only be able to recognize and evoke emotions in individuals with whom it interacts, but will also have its own emotions, wants, beliefs, and maybe goals. And this is the kind of AI that skeptics of the technology are concerned about. Although the emergence of self-awareness has the potential to accelerate our growth as a civilization, it also has the potential to lead to disaster. This is because, once self-aware, AI might have ideals like self-preservation, which could either directly or indirectly mark the end of humanity, as such an entity could easily outsmart any human brain and plot elaborate schemes to take over humanity.
