The Te Ara Poutama Scholarship supports practitioners and professional students at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in their educational journey, with a focus on achievement, leadership, and future success.

Eligibility Criteria for the Te Ara Poutama Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2026:

• Applicant must be a practitioner or professional enrolled as a student at AUT.
• Applicant must have an interest in studying or researching one or more of the following areas:
  • The Treaty of Waitangi in today's business world.
  • The global importance of Indigenous rights and treaties.
  • Advancement of race relations in modern society.

Application Process for the Te Ara Poutama Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2026:

• Apply through the AUT online scholarship application portal.
• Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words outlining interest in the eligible study or research areas and explaining why the applicant should receive the scholarship.
• Provide the name of one character referee through the application portal.
• Ensure that the nominated referee is aware of the scholarship deadline

Selection Criteria:

• The Scholarships Office will confirm applicant eligibility before providing eligible applications to the selection panel.
• The selection panel will comprise representatives from the Te Ara Poutama Office.
• Applicants will be formally notified of the outcome by the Scholarships Office.
• The scholarship will not be awarded if the panel considers that no applicant has sufficient merit.

Value of the Scholarship:

• The scholarship amount varies and is not fixed.
• The award is provided as a contribution towards tuition fees.

Conditions of Acceptance:

• The recipient must enrol full-time in an approved programme. Approved study may take place in Semester 1, Semester 2, or the Summer Semester, where available.
• The scholarship cannot normally be deferred except in cases of compelling medical reasons or adverse personal circumstances beyond the student's control.
• The recipient must remain continuously enrolled in their programme during the scholarship tenure.
• Suspensions or leave of absence will not normally be approved unless there are compelling medical or personal circumstances beyond the student's control.
• Requests for deferral or suspension must be submitted in writing to the AUT Scholarships Office.
• Appeals may be considered where compelling reasons exist and must be supported by the student's Student Advisor and Faculty. An appeal may be considered once during the scholarship tenure.
• The recipient may hold other scholarships with approval from the Scholarships Office.
• The recipient will normally be required to enrol in at least 60 points per semester during the scholarship tenure.
• Permission to study fewer than 60 points may be granted in exceptional circumstances, in which case the scholarship will be paid pro rata based on the points undertaken during the scholarship tenure.
