Rhodes University Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2026

Rhodes University offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowships across all faculties to support existing research and scholarly or creative activities. These fellowships are awarded for one year initially, with the possibility of renewal, and aim to complement existing programs within the university departments.

EligibilityCriteria:

• Applicants must hold a doctoral degree awarded within the last five years, preferably from an institution other than Rhodes University.
• Candidates must demonstrate exceptional merit through the quality and corpus of publications or other recognized achievements relevant to their discipline.
• Applicants who have not completed their PhD at the time of the Fellowship offer must have submitted their thesis by the end of 2025, with assurance from their supervisor regarding completion.
• Applications should be made through Heads of Departments or Directors of Research Institutes.

Value of the Fellowship:

• Each Fellowship includes a package of R260,000 per annum.
• The Fellowship cannot be held concurrently with any supplementary funding.
