The Woolf Fisher First-in-Family AUT Scholarship supports young New Zealanders who are the first in their family to pursue a degree and may face financial or other barriers to university study. Established by the Woolf Fisher Trust, the scholarship aims to provide financial support that enables students to participate fully and achieve excellence in tertiary education.

Eligibility Criteria for the Woolf Fisher First-in-Family AUT Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2026:

  • Applicant must be the first in their family to pursue a degree, normally meaning neither birth parent has successfully completed a degree-level qualification.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial hardship.
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled in the first year of a full-time bachelor's degree programme at AUT at the time of application.
  • Applicant must be a New Zealand citizen.
  • Applicant must have attended a New Zealand secondary school for at least two years.
  • Applicant must be able to demonstrate a commitment to bringing about positive change in their community if applying from South Auckland, where preference may be given.
  • Applicant with siblings who are enrolled in or have completed a degree may also be eligible; however, priority may be given to the first child in the family to enrol in a degree.

Application Process for the Woolf Fisher First-in-Family AUT Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2026:

  • Apply through the AUT Scholarships online portal.
  • Submit certified copies of academic records, including NCEA results or equivalent qualifications and Semester 1 AUT grades.
  • Provide a list of academic achievements, leadership positions, sporting and cultural involvement, and community involvement.
  • Submit a statement outlining determination to succeed in the chosen course and contribute to the community.
  • Declare that neither birth parent has successfully completed a degree-level qualification.
  • Declare any current or previous degree programme enrolments of siblings.

Selection Criteria:

  • Applications are considered and shortlisted by a selection panel appointed by the AUT Foundation, including the Pro Vice Chancellor Pacific and Pou Mua Senior Manager.
  • Shortlisting takes place after Semester 1 academic results are released.
  • The scholarship is awarded by the AUT Foundation.
  • The decision of the AUT Foundation is final.
  • The scholarship may not be awarded if no applicant is considered to have sufficient merit.

Value of the Scholarship:

  • Up to 13 scholarships may be awarded annually, although the number may vary each year.
  • The scholarship is normally tenable for three years of full-time study.
  • For students enrolled in a three-year degree, the scholarship covers full tuition fees and compulsory student services fees for the first, second, and third years.
  • Consideration may be given to a fourth year for students enrolled in a four-year degree programme.
