Overview

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is offered at the University of British Columbia for students planning to pursue their Doctoral studies. The value of the scholarship is CAD 50,000 per year for up to three years.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The applicant can be of any nationality.
  • The applicant must be nominated by one Canadian university, and the scholarship must be held at that university.
  • The applicant must be pursuing your first doctoral degree.
  • The applicant must have completed no more than 20 months of full-time study in your doctoral program as of May 1, 2025.
  • The applicant must have achieved a first-class average, as determined by their host institution, in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent.
  • The applicant cannot have already received a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC to undertake or complete a doctoral program.

Application Process:

  • UBC Vanier applicants must complete their Vanier application using ResearchNet.
  • The application should include the following documents:
    • Official transcripts,
    • Two letters from referees assessing the applicant's academic excellence, research potential, and demonstrated potential leadership ability,
    • Two leadership reference letters,
    • A “Vanier-Banting Academic” CV,
    • Other documents as and when requested by the provider.

Value of the Scholarship:

The successful candidates are awarded a sum of CAD 50,000 annually.
