Tū Ātea Scholarship for Māori Engineering Student at Auckland University of Technology 2026:

The Tū Ātea Scholarship for Māori Engineering Students provides financial assistance, industry connections, and access to the Tū Ātea Future Māori Leaders Programme for Māori students studying engineering and technology-related degrees at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Recipients may also access networking and conference opportunities within the telecommunications and related technology sectors.

Eligibility Criteria for the Tū Ātea Scholarship for Māori Engineering Student at Auckland University of Technology 2026:

• Applicant must be a Māori student.
• Applicant must be a domestic student, meaning a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or resident visa holder.
• Applicant must be enrolled in Year 2, 3, or 4, or an eligible postgraduate programme, at AUT.
• Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following eligible programmes:
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours): Mechatronics Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours): Software Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours): Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology – Electrical or Electronics
  • Bachelor of Computer Science

Application Process for the Tū Ātea Scholarship for Māori Engineering Student at Auckland University of Technology 2026:

• Apply through the AUT online scholarship application portal.
• Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words outlining academic achievement, character, leadership potential, and aspirations to make a difference, particularly for Māori and Aotearoa New Zealand.
• Provide the name of one character referee through the application portal.
• The referee may be a teacher, school nominee, mentor, community leader, or employer.
• A close family member cannot provide the reference.
• Applicants should ensure that their referee is aware of the scholarship deadline. 

Selection Criteria:

• The Scholarships Office will confirm applicant eligibility before forwarding eligible applications to the selection panel.
• The selection panel will comprise representatives of Tū Ātea Limited and the AUT Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies.
• The panel will shortlist and select the recipient.
• Applicants will be formally notified of the outcome by the Scholarships Office.
• Fewer scholarships may be awarded if there are insufficient candidates of sufficient merit.

Value of the Scholarship:

• NZD 5,000, paid as a stipend.

Tenability and Retention Criteria:

• Applicant must remain enrolled in an eligible programme for the duration of the scholarship, either full-time or in an approved part-time arrangement.
• The scholarship may be held with other awards unless the conditions of another award specifically prohibit this.
• The scholarship may be withdrawn, and funds already paid may be recovered, if the recipient fails to:
  • Maintain enrolment.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic engagement.
  • Maintain satisfactory engagement with the Tū Ātea Future Māori Leaders Programme.
• The scholarship must normally be taken up in the year of application and cannot normally be deferred.
• Deferral, suspension, or leave of absence may be considered only in compelling medical or adverse personal circumstances beyond the student's control.
• Requests for deferral, suspension, or leave of absence must be made in writing to the Scholarships Office.
• Students may appeal decisions relating to these requirements where compelling reasons exist. Appeals must be supported by the student's Academic Advisor and Faculty and may be considered once during the scholarship tenure.
• If a student successfully appeals reinstatement after failing a paper, the scholarship will not cover the cost of resitting the failed paper.
