Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship at Imperial College London 

The Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship at Imperial College London is a fully funded program to support outstanding students from Sub-Saharan Africa pursuing a doctoral degree in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria of Shawki Saad PhD Scholarship:

1. The applicant must be ordinarily resident in Sub-Saharan Africa and propose a PhD research project that directly addresses challenges in the region.
2. The applicant must hold a good Upper Second or First Class Degree (or international equivalent) in engineering or another numerate discipline, along with a Master’s degree qualification.

Application Process: 

1. The applicant must first identify potential PhD supervisors by exploring the academic staff pages, then contact preferred supervisors to discuss research ideas and funding possibilities, and finally submit a PhD application through the online admissions system by 23 May 2025, ensuring that a supervisor has shown interest before applying.
2. The applicant must also be formally nominated for funding by their prospective supervisor by 2 March 2026.

Award: Full tuition fees at the overseas rate and a stipend of at least GBP 22,000 p.a.
