    A well-known research fellowship program at Royal Museums Greenwich has supported the public's programs and exhibitions and allowed top-notch research for many years, offering fresh viewpoints on the museums and holdings. Anyone with appropriate professional or academic experience who can show a dedication to and aptitude for independent research is encouraged to apply. Research that addresses the social mission and guiding principles of the Museum—namely, identity, diversity, community, creativity, and human influences on the environment and the natural world—is warmly welcomed.

    Eligibility for Caird Research Fellowships with Royal Museums Greenwich:

    Applications from anybody with appropriate professional or academic expertise who can show a dedication to and aptitude for independent study are encouraged by Royal Museums Greenwich. Applicants from various backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, according to Royal Museums Greenwich.  

    Research Areas:

    • Caribbean, African, and Atlantic histories and material cultures 
    • Global histories and material cultures 
    • The migration of people, objects, goods, and ideas 
    • British identities in imperial, post-colonial and global contexts  
    • Under-represented histories including gender, sexuality, disability  
    • Art, architecture, and identity 
    • New approaches to histories of shipping and shipping companies 
    • The Royal Observatory Greenwich is a historic landmark and cultural icon.

    Conditions for the Fellowship:

    • Fellows are required to collaborate with museum personnel to create ways to present their research topic and findings to a variety of audiences. Some possible venues for this work include blog posts, vox pops, presentations, and seminars, among other Museum programs and events. 
    • The Fellow shall bear the cost of any taxes due on the award, any charges related to obtaining a visa, and any necessary health or travel insurance.  
    • It is your responsibility to make sure you have the necessary authorizations to enter the UK and conduct research if you are not a resident. 
    • Any publications that are the product of research conducted during the Fellowship term, in whole or in part, will bear a written recognition from the Museum. 
    • Copies of all publications sponsored, in whole or in part, by the Fellowship will be given to the Museum by the Fellow via the Research Department. 
    • Following the end of their Fellowship, the Fellow will submit a written report to the Museum. 

    Value and Duration:

    • The candidate will suggest the Fellowship's term, which may be as little as three months or as long as twelve months. The Fellowship may be used full- or part-time, and the Museum will be consulted to establish the number of research days. A schedule that outlines project milestones in detail must be submitted to justify the Fellowship's projected duration. 
    • The Fellowship provides a monthly payment of £2,100. Either the Fellow or the Fellow's institution may receive the honor directly. Fellowships might start as early as by agreement or in September after the appointment. 
    • Fellowship funds are meant to offset research expenses (lodging, transportation, and food).
