Ray Hoare Master’s Scholarship in Antarctic Research at Victoria University of Wellington
This scholarship, established by the Antarctic Research Centre through a generous donation from alumnus Ray Hoare to the ARC Endowed Development Fund, supports Master’s students undertaking research in the field of Antarctic studies.
Eligibility Criteria of Ray Hoare Master’s Scholarship in Antarctic Research:
- Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who are currently enrolled or intending to enrol in a 90- or 120-point Master’s by thesis degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
- Their research must have a clear connection to the Antarctic Research Centre.
Selection Criteria:
- Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s prior experience, knowledge, commitment to Antarctic research, extra-curricular achievements, and community involvement.
- Academic achievement will be considered secondarily, with preference given to those experiencing financial hardship.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 22,000 tax free stipend for one year plus tuition fees.
Note:
- The scholarship will be paid directly to the student in monthly installments, and the recipient must write a thank-you letter to the donor within the first month of receiving the award.
- At the end of the scholarship, the recipient is required to provide a Zoom call, a brief written progress report, and an electronic copy of their thesis to the donor.
