Established in 2015, the Prize is awarded by a grateful alumnus in honor of Professor Northey. The Prize's primary goal is to identify and honor the student who has the highest grade in immigration and refugee law.
Eligibility for the Northey Prize in Immigration and Refugee Law:
Applicants must:
- Be a student at the University of Auckland
- Achieve the highest marks in one of the following courses (or an equivalent course):
- LAWPUBL 424 – Immigration and Refugee Law
- LAWPUBL 443 – Refugee Law
- LAWPUBL 444 – Immigration Law
- Achieve a minimum grade of A-
- If the above courses are not offered in the award year:
- Be an undergraduate or postgraduate student with the highest marks in:
- A research essay, dissertation, or thesis related to Immigration Law and/or Refugee Law, or
- A human rights–related course selected by the Dean of the Faculty of Law (or nominee)
- Be an undergraduate or postgraduate student with the highest marks in:
Value of the Northey Prize in Immigration and Refugee Law:
One Prize will be awarded annually and will be of the value of $1,000.
