Overview

IPBA Scholarships are offered by the Inter-Pacific Bar Association for lawyers who cannot otherwise attend the IPBA Annual Meeting and Conference. The selected Scholar will be responsible to attend the Conference and make a brief presentation at the Conference on a designated topic, and to provide a report after the conference. Following the conference, the Scholars will enjoy 3 years of IPBA membership and will be invited to join a dedicated social networking forum with other past and future Scholars.

Eligibility Criteria for Young Lawyers:

  • Applicants must be under 35 years of age and have less than seven years of legal practice.
  • Candidates should be fluent in both written and spoken English (given this is the conference language).
  • Students must have taken an active role in the legal profession in his/her country.
  • Applicants should currently be involved in a cross-border practice or wish to become engaged in a cross-border practice.

Notes:

Preference will be given to those applicants who could not otherwise attend the conference due to personal and family financial circumstances and/or because they are employed by a small firm that could not afford to send them to the conference. Preference will also be given to applicants who have not previously attended an IPBA conference.

Eligibility Criteria for Lawyers in Developing Countries:

  • Applicants must be indigenous lawyers in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, or the Pacific Islands.
  • Candidates should be fluent in both written and spoken English (the conference language).
  • Students must currently be involved in a cross-border practice or wish to become engaged in a cross-border practice.

Benefits:

A successful applicant will receive round-trip economy plane fare between the country of residence or current location and the conference city, accommodations in the host city for the duration of the conference, and full registration for the conference.
