Overview

Over the course of 24 months, the study will evaluate a twice-weekly in-person high-intensity resistance and impact training (HiRIT) intervention for individuals with multiple sclerosis in comparison to a control group. Comparing group results, such as bone mineral density, muscle strength, quality of life, feasibility, and acceptance, will be the main emphasis of the first twelve months. Program sustainability will be the main focus of the second 12-month period.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must meet Deakin's PhD entry requirements.
  • Applicants must be enrolling full-time and hold an honours degree (first class) or an equivalent standard master's degree with a substantial research component.
  • Applicants must be able to attend partner sites, including Monash Health, Clayton, and MS Plus, Blackburn/Footscray as required.
  • Applicants must hold a relevant undergraduate degree in health sciences, psychology, exercise science or related field.

Benefits:

  • Stipend of $34,400 per annum tax exempt (2024 rate)
  • Relocation allowance of $500-1500 (for single to family) for students moving from interstate
  • Tuition fees are offset for the duration of 4 years. Single Overseas Student Health Cover policy for the duration of the student visa (only for International students)
