    Judy Kennedy was a superb leader in the Hunter region's healthcare system. She began her career as a mental health nurse and rose to the position of deputy director of the mental health service in the Hunter New England Health District, where she oversaw several significant, cutting-edge innovations. She was a resolute supporter of bettering mental health treatment and was well-known for her kind demeanor toward everyone she encountered, particularly patients and their families. She was ardently committed to advancing the education of aspiring medical professionals and had a strong interest in social justice. 

    Eligibility for the Judy Kennedy Research Scholarship in Mental Health:

    • Candidates must be enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Newcastle, to improve the outcomes and treatment provided to individuals with mental illness and their families.
    • Either a full-time or part-time enrollment is required of candidates.
    • Pupils should exhibit strong academic performance as well as past accomplishments.
    • Candidates must be full-fee-paying foreign students who are citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
    • Applicants are not permitted to hold concurrently more than one donor-funded or sponsored scholarship at the University of Newcastle.

     

    Application Process:

    Interested candidates should write an email to the university (Graduate-Research@newcastle.edu.au) indicating their interest and include:

    • A CV
    • A declaration in writing outlining your goals, plans, and research progress. A written declaration may not exceed one A4 page, not counting supporting documentation.
    • A formal declaration detailing how your study hopes to enhance the treatment and results for individuals with mental illness and their families. Included in this should be the possible effects, any interactions with service providers, and opinions from others who have firsthand experience with mental illness, including caregivers.
    • An endorsement letter from your manager.
    • A candidate will not be selected if they fail to provide the necessary paperwork, including documentary proof.
