Ian Gordon Master’s Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The Ian Gordon Scholarships, established in 2021 through the Ian Gordon Trust Fund, support students pursuing a Master’s degree by coursework in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or TESOL at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. The awards honor Emeritus Professor Ian Gordon’s legacy in English language and linguistics, with at least one scholarship typically offered to teachers returning to study.
Eligibility Criteria of Ian Gordon Master’s Scholarship:
Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enrol, either full-time or part-time, in a Master's degree by coursework in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or TESOL at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. Students who have already commenced their studies are not eligible to apply.
Selection Criteria:
- Selection is based on academic merit, with consideration of relevant prior experience.
- Preference is given to applicants who do not already hold another scholarship or equivalent funding for the same course of study.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 10,000 to be paid as stipend in two instalments.
Note:
- The Ian Gordon Master’s Scholarship can only be awarded once to any applicant.
- The successful recipients are expected to write a letter of thanks on receipt of the Scholarship and to provide a report after completing their Master's degree. These should be addressed to the chair of the Ian Gordon Trust Fund Committee at the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies.
